Gilles Villeneuve’s victory at the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix in Montréal was more than a race—it was a heartwarming moment that changed Canadian motorsport forever. When Jean-Pierre Jarier’s Lotus faltered, Gilles seized his first Formula 1 win, becoming the only Canadian ever to triumph at his home Grand Prix. The crowd erupted with joy, electrified by the sight of a local hero achieving the impossible. Gilles would go on to podium two more times in Montréal, finishing 2nd in 1979, and 3rd in 1981.
