Gilles Villeneuve Mosport '77 T-Shirt - Relaxed Fit
The Gilles Villeneuve Mosport ‘77 Tee captures the moment before Gilles’ debut with Ferrari at the 1977 Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport Park.
Richard Kelly describes his photo: “The morning before Mosport’s first practice, all photojournalists were removed from the pit lane before Villeneuve’s arrival, with no exceptions. I captured the only series of images of a smiling Gilles Villeneuve as the team placed the Ferrari jacket on his shoulders. He once said his three wishes were to be a racer, a Formula 1 driver, and to drive for Ferrari. This was his dream, and witnessing that moment was pure bliss.”
This tee is part of our exclusive Homecoming collection, honouring the Canadian Grand Prix racetrack namesake.
The front of the tee includes three exclusive Homecoming logos, celebrating the racetrack that now bears his name:
- An outline of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve racetrack.
- The logo that was first used for the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix, the first year that the event was held in Montréal, as well as Gilles first win in Montréal.
- The iconic MTL abbreviation.
The back of the t-shirt is printed with an image of Gilles from 1977 at Mosport Park, and includes Richard Kelly’s text from above.

A Ferrari Start at Mosport 1977
In 1977, Gilles Villeneuve’s journey to Formula 1 began against a backdrop of loss and change. The world mourned legends like Elvis Presley, Maria Callas, and Charlie Chaplin, while Formula 1 itself faced tragedy with the deaths of Tom Pryce and Carlos Pace. Amidst this turmoil, Gilles—a little-known Canadian—caught Ferrari’s eye after an impressive debut at Silverstone in a McLaren. When Niki Lauda announced his sudden departure from Ferrari, Gilles was called to race the final two Grands Prix, including Mosport. Though unfamiliar with the car and starting 17th, Gilles showed his spirit, finishing 12th after battling bravely. His story was just beginning.

Ferrari Races — Gilles Villeneuve competed in a total of 67 Grands Prix for Ferrari, from late 1977 until his death in May 1982.
